As part of its support for the historians, the Society maintains data relating to history and the historical profession in UK higher education.

Full details of this listing are available here. The resource provides links to external, publicly accessible content with information on the present state of the historical discipline and profession in UK higher education. It was last updated in December 2024.

The resource provides information on the following eight areas:

  • History academic staff in UK higher education
  • History students enrolled in UK higher education
  • Graduate qualifications in history
  • Outcomes for UK history students on graduation
  • History students’ attitudes to UK undergraduate courses: national student survey
  • History students at GCSE, A-Level and Scottish Highers
  • Black and minority ethnic representation in history: students and academic staff
  • Resources and funding options for historians

The Society updates this page as new data is released. Many of the external providers also offer data for previous years, enabling the mapping of trends. In each case, the Society is not responsible for the quality or comprehensiveness of data provided by these external providers.
