Dr Philip Carter
Director

Philip is Director at the Royal Historical Society.

He is responsible for managing the professional office and its staff, with oversight of Society governance and finance, on which he works closely with the President and Councillors. For the office, Philip leads on advocacy and the Society’s academic and research work, as well as on publishing, digital and communications, institutional partnerships, and the Society’s library and archive.

Before joining the Society in 2021, Philip was Director of Publishing and Digital and Senior Lecturer in British History at the Institute of Historical Research, University of London (2016-21). Prior to this he worked for the Faculty of History, University of Oxford and Oxford University Press as a senior editor at the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography. He is Fellow of the Society (2002), as well as of the IHR (2021) and the Society of Antiquaries (2023).

Lisa Linossi
Membership and Programmes Manager

Lisa is the Membership and Programmes Manager at the Royal Historical Society.

She oversees the Society’s Fellowship and Membership activities, including recruitment, member services, and the management of membership data.

Lisa also leads the administration of the Society’s grant programmes through the Research Support Committee, from running application processes to awarding and managing grants. In addition, she provides support to the Society’s Membership and Research Support Committees.

Sabiqah Zaidi
Governance and Finance Officer

Sabiqah is the Society’s Governance and Finance Officer.

In this role, Sabiqah leads on the Society’s internal governance and the organisation and record keeping of the Council and the Society’s committees. In addition, she is responsible for the daily financial activities of the Society and manages the Society’s prizes and Fellowship recruitment programme.

Sabiqah joined the Society in May 2022 and previously held the role of Communications and Operations Administrator. Prior to joining the RHS, Sabiqah worked in legal and local government administration. She is graduate in History from Birkbeck, University of London.
